Christian Soronen Award for Excellence in Oral Advocacy and Courtcall Law School Award

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE CHRISTIAN SORONEN AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN ORAL ADVOCACY AND COURTCALL LAW SCHOOL AWARDS

We are now accepting applications for the Christian Soronen Award for Excellence in Oral Advocacy. The official announcement and statement of the requirements is below.  The deadline for applications is 4:00 pm Monday, April 6.  To apply, please submit a resume and a letter (addressed to the Selection Committee) explaining your qualifications for the award and reasons the Committee should select you.  Submit applications electronically to Director of Advocacy Barbara Kritchevsky at bkrtchvs@memphis.edu.  It will be easiest for the Committee if you submit the application in a single pdf document.

Christian Soronen Award for Excellence in Oral Advocacy was established in memory of Christian Soronen, a 2007 graduate of University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. The scholarship will be awarded to a third-year law student in good academic standing. The student must have been a member of a moot court travel team or selected to be a member of such a team during his or her third year. Third-year students who have been or will be a member of a mock trial team, alternative dispute resolution team and have competed in the Advanced Moot Court Competition are also eligible. Preference will be given to students who have excelled in inter-school and in-school competitions, members of the Moot Court Board, students enrolled in the Certificate in Advocacy program, and students who have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to the law school’s advocacy program.

The University of Memphis is participating in the CourtCall Law School Awards program for 2019-20.  CourtCall will present two graduating students with an award of $250 each for excellence in advocacy.  Students who are interested in applying for the CourtCall Award should provide a statement of interest and any other supporting documentation (resume, transcript) to Director of Advocacy Barbara Kritchevsky, focusing on the following criteria:

 

  1. Excellence in moot court and/or mock trial competitions;
  2. Outstanding service to the Moot Court Board;
  3. Outstanding performance in Advocacy courses (Appellate Advocacy, Trial Advocacy, etc.).

Applications for the CourtCall award must be received by 4:00 p.m. Monday,  April 6.

Students who apply for both awards must submit separate applications.
