Asian American Law Student Association 2022-2023 Elections

The Asian Pacific American Law Student Association is accepting interest letters for executive board membership.  If you are interested, please submit an 150 word interest statement to wmdneley@memphis.edu, including the position you seek and your class.
The following positions are available:
President
Vice President
Treasurer
Secretary
Community Service Liaison
Other positions may be made available following the primary election process.  Please direct any questions to Wai-Lin Danieley, the current APALSA President.  Submissions are due April 3, 2022.  Elections will begin April 4, 2022 and will close the following Monday.

ARTICLE IV – OFFICERS

Section 1.        Elections are to be held during the Spring semester, where active members select the Executive Board for the Spring Semester and following Fall semester.  If there is a vacancy in an executive position after an election has taken place, the Executive Board will abide by the processes set forth within the bylaws or nominate an alternative Active member or Executive member to assume duties and tasks of the position for the remainder of the tenure.  Elections winners will be decided by majority vote.

Section 2.        The Executive Board is entrusted with authority over administrative matters over the organization.  The roles of the Executive Board are set forth:

a)    President.  The President shall oversee all meetings, events, membership positions, membership duties, and filings with the University of Memphis and the National Affiliate, The National Asian Pacific American Law Student Association. In the event of a vacant position, the President has the authority of appointment. (ref. Art. IV § 5.)

b)    Vice President.  The Vice President shall assist the President in the absence and may handle administrative matters in coordination with the President.

c)     Treasurer.  The Treasurer shall administer the organization’s financial records, collect membership dues and distribute receipts, prepare the yearly budget, and keep a record of expenditure. Reimbursements are made through the Treasurer.

d)    Secretary.  The Secretary shall record membership and membership activity; Maintain communication to all current members via email; distribute organization information to members; maintain chapter minutes, and count votes for candidates.

e)     Chapter Liaison.  The Chapter Liaison shall represent the organization for meetings outside of the Chapter, any University of Memphis meetings, and any meetings with organizations outside of the University of Memphis. In addition, the Chapter Liaison shall contribute to the goals of this organization by outreach to University of Memphis professors and members of the legal community.

Section 3.        An officer may be removed by address of the Executive Board; placed on probation for failing to fulfill official duties for a period set by vote of the Executive board; recused for any reason on the part of the officer.

Section 4.        To establish this organization, the University of Memphis authorizes members to select an advisor that oversees the functions of the Chapter.  The advisor may attend any meeting

Section 5.        The majority vote will approve appointed positions of the Executive board.
