Apply for Ms. JD Scholarships

We at Ms. JD, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting women in law, are excited to announce two exciting opportunities for law students:

  • Scholarship Applications for Public Interest and Civil Rights Work
  • Fellowship Applications for Rising 3Ls

We want to make sure these incredible resources reach as many students as possible and would be very grateful if you could share these opportunities across your networks.

Applications are now open for the Ms. JD Public Interest Scholarship and the Breonna Taylor & Kenneth Walker Civil Rights Scholarship.

The Public Interest Scholarship supports students pursuing careers in public interest law through summer internships in fields including immigration law, women’s rights, public health, public defense, government work, and criminal justice reform. The definition of public interest law is broad and includes both domestic and international work, direct service, impact litigation, policy work, and nonprofit roles.

The Breonna Taylor & Kenneth Walker Civil Rights Scholarship, endowed by Munger, Tolles & Olson in 2024, is awarded to law students with a demonstrated commitment to practicing civil rights law and who are completing related internships.

You don’t need a confirmed summer internship to apply, but you must be a first or second-year law student (or third-year for part-time students) pursuing a summer placement in public interest or civil rights. One application automatically considers you for both scholarships.

Before you apply, have these materials ready: your resume, unofficial law school transcript(s), and one letter of recommendation.

Recipients are selected based on academic performance, leadership, and commitment to advancing the status of women in public interest and civil rights law. Applications close May 1, 2026. Selected students will be notified by May 29, 2026.

We encourage students to apply and share this opportunity with others in their network!

Applications are now open for the 2026-2027 Ms. JD Fellowship. Each year, Ms. JD selects 12 exceptional rising 3Ls for a transformative year that includes monthly leadership learning sessions on Wednesday evenings, dedicated one-on-one mentorship with an experienced woman attorney, financial support to attend an in-person Law Student Leadership Academy Intensive, and the opportunity to contribute to the Pre-Law Magazine.

Monthly sessions cover topics including overcoming imposter syndrome, bar prep strategies, building your network, and navigating your early career. You’ll meet fellow Fellows in person at the Leadership Academy and build relationships that extend well beyond your fellowship year.

Fellows are selected based on academic performance, leadership, and dedication to advancing the status of women in the legal profession. The most successful applicants integrate their personal and professional experiences to tell a compelling story of why they want to be involved with Ms. JD.

Applications close May 10, 2026. Finalists will be contacted to schedule an interview in June.
