AbbVie Legal Academy: 1L Legal Internship Progams
We are writing to you on behalf of AbbVie, the biopharmaceutical company headquartered in North Chicago, Illinois, to ask for your assistance in publicizing and encouraging candidates to apply for our 1L Legal Internship Programs, which are paid positions that give 1Ls the opportunity to do hands on work in a top tier in house legal team. Attached are the job descriptions for each of the two programs, as well as the links to our website to apply for the positions.
The 1L Patent Legal Academy seeks candidates preferably with relevant science backgrounds. As part of the program, the interns will draft a patent application, respond to office actions from the patent office and perform other prosecution tasks, as well as participate in a patent litigation team. Patent interns also get support for taking the patent bar.
The second program offers candidates with an interest in corporate law an exciting opportunity to join our legal department to learn about, and handle, real-world corporate legal matters in close coordination with AbbVie attorneys. Interns will have substantive exposure to a wide variety of projects which may include corporate, finance, privacy, real estate, litigation, employment and digital health, researching and drafting memos on legal findings, drafting and evaluating contract clauses, and participating in strategy meetings with in-house and outside counsel to understand business goals on a rotational basis.
Graduates of AbbVie’s 1L internship program have gone on to be 2L summer associates and begin their careers at a plethora of top notch law firms. Interns in all of the AbbVie Legal programs will have the opportunity to meet with outside counsel through the program, as well as to research and present a capstone presentation.
