3Ls: CHRISTIAN SORONEN AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN ORAL ADVOCACY
We are now accepting applications for the Christian Soronen Award for Excellence in Oral Advocacy!
The official announcement and statement of the requirements are below. The deadline for applications is 4:00 pm Monday, April 13.
To apply: please submit 1) a resume and 2) a letter (addressed to the Selection Committee) explaining your qualifications for the award and reasons the Committee should select you. The most helpful letters will explain how your work in the advocacy area has influenced your law school career. The Committee carefully reviews each applicant’s resume, so you should avoid simply listing accomplishments and awards in your letter. It is fine to mention your achievements to provide context but use the letter to focus on your personal experience with the moot court program and the ways it has contributed to your professional growth and career goals. In short, the Committee wants to know how your participation in the moot court program changed your law school experience.
Submit applications electronically to Director of Advocacy Barbara Kritchevsky at bkrtchvs@memphis.edu. Please submit the application as a single pdf document. The subject line of your email should state your name and that the attachment is your application for the Soronen Award. The Committee may schedule interviews to follow up on the written submissions. Please address any questions about the award or the application process to Director of Advocacy Barbara Kritchevsky.
About: Christian Soronen Award for Excellence in Oral Advocacy was established in memory of Christian Soronen, a 2007 graduate of University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. The scholarship will be awarded to a third-year law student in good academic standing. The student must have been a member of a moot court travel team. Third-year students who have been a member of a mock trial team, alternative dispute resolution team and have competed in the Advanced Moot Court Competition are also eligible. Preference will be given to students who have excelled in inter-school and in-school competitions, members of the Moot Court Board, students enrolled in the Certificate in Advocacy program, and students who have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to the law school’s advocacy program.
