International Paper Legal Department
2019 Summer Intern Program

As part of the International Paper Legal Department Summer Intern Program, the Memphis office of International Paper is interested in seeking candidates from your school to apply for an eight to twelve week summer internship. This year’s program is intended to give first year law students the experience of working in a corporate environment on matters that are varied by subject area and type of work.

A candidate for a position as a Summer Intern must demonstrate the following:

• Integrity
• Intelligence and sound judgment
• Breadth of life experience, in the form of extracurricular interests or work experience
• Ability to overcome adversity
• Aptitude and desire for a career in the law
• Ability to work effectively as a team member in a company that values diversity

The IP Legal Department’s practice is both sophisticated and diverse. Some IP attorneys are aligned exclusively with one of IP’s business units and function as the points of contact for all legal issues related to their business. Other attorneys focus on discrete areas of law that cut across multiple business units. These include antitrust, compliance, corporate, corporate governance, employee benefits, employment, energy, environmental, global sourcing, intellectual property, information technology, international, labor, litigation, real estate, securities, international trade, and transactions.

The IP Legal Department is committed to providing quality legal services using in-house resources whenever possible. This objective — and the inherent complexity of a large, publicly-held company doing business internationally — ensures challenging and rewarding legal work and outstanding opportunities for training and development. Our attorneys provide direct, critical legal advice that is immediately put to use by clients making key business decisions. The Department prides itself on its collegiality and commitment to people; we’re interested in helping the Company compete, not in competing with each other.

While compensation for this year’s program has yet to be set, it will be a paid position in accordance with our normal payroll practices. Please note that this position does not include a housing allowance and will not lead to an offer of permanent employment.

Apply via Symplicity OCI, “SPRING 2019 OCI (March 11-15)” The application deadline is February 28, and the on campus interviews will be held on March 12.
