Paid Summer Legal Internship – ALSAC Legal Department (ALSAC is the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital)

Position Title: Legal Intern

Department: Legal

Location: Memphis, TN

Duration: Summer (June 1, 2026-August 7, 2026)

FLSA Status: Internship – Non-Exempt/ 40 hours per week

Compensation $22-$25 per hour

Position Summary

The Legal Intern will support the ALSAC’s Legal Department in providing guidance on a wide range of issues, including regulatory compliance, contracts, fundraising, and employment matters. This internship provides meaningful exposure to the unique legal and operational challenges that nonprofits face, with opportunities to work collaboratively across departments such as, Development, Employee Experience, Finance, and Compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Research & Analysis

· Conduct research on intellectual property and trademarks law, federal and state tax regulations for nonprofit entities, charitable solicitation and gaming laws, privacy regulations, employment law, AI regulations, and other regulatory compliance requirements.

· Prepare legal research in various formats summarizing findings and risk considerations.

· Monitor new federal and state developments impacting nonprofit operations or funding.

Drafting & Document Support

· Draft, review, and edit contracts such as vendor agreements, nondisclosure agreements, grant agreements, and partnership agreements.

· Support creation and maintenance of legal templates and document repositories.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

· Participate in meetings and observe how the Legal Department advises business units.

· Assist with special projects related to mission-driven initiatives, process improvement, or risk assessment.

· Support department estate management program.

Qualifications

Education

· Current enrollment in an accredited law school and completion of at least two full semesters

Skills & Competencies

· Strong legal research and writing skills.

· Interest in nonprofit operations and compliance.

· Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.

· Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with integrity.

· Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with diverse teams.

Preferred Experience

· Coursework related to nonprofit organizations, tax law, administrative law, employment law, or contracts.

· Prior experience in nonprofit work, pro bono projects, or public service (legal or non-legal).
