1Ls & 2Ls: Apply for ALSAC OCI by Sunday April 7
ALSAC seeks a 1L or 2L to serve as a paid summer law clerk. American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities, Inc. (“ALSAC”), is a not-for-profit, section 501(c)(3) corporation, founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas in 1957 to raise funds and awareness exclusively for the support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®. The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.
The Legal Department at ALSAC supports the fundraising initiatives and operations of our partner Divisions such as Field Operations, Marketing, Strategic Partnerships, Gift Planning, and Direct Marketing. We handle the legal aspects of fundraising in these areas: Regulatory, Contracts, Trademarks, and Estates. The successful law clerk candidate will have exposure to many areas of the law, gain an understanding of how an efficient and creative in-house team operates, and learn how ALSAC supports the mission of St. Jude.
Here are sample assignments that previous clerks have worked on while at ALSAC:
– Review of Board Governance/Conflict of interest matters
– 50 state survey of professional fundraising laws in the non-profit space
– Drafting legal opinions for executive officers
– Drafting letters of agreement for corporate partnerships and commercial co-ventures
– Evaluating charitable laws for nonprofit as applied to marketing strategies
– Reviewing/drafting non-disclosure agreements
– Cyber Security, privacy laws for non-profit
– Mobile fundraising under telecomm laws
