HELP SMOKY MOUNTAIN WILDFIRE VICTIMS

Street Law is sponsoring a drive to assist Smoky Mountain Wildfire Victims.

By now, I am sure that everyone has heard about the wildfire that has burned down more than 15,000 acres in Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. More than 150 structures (homes and businesses) have burned down and hundreds have lost their homes, jobs, and businesses. I am from Gatlinburg and I feel blessed to know that my family and home are safe. I will be driving home as soon as my final exam ends on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 7th and I would love to take a car full of helpful donations to help out the community.

Please let me know if you are able to donate anything at all. They are currently in need of basic daily supplies such as: toothbrushes, toothpaste, water, baby wipes, pet food, kennels, hygiene items, clothes for adults and kids, non-perishable food, toys for babies and children, diapers, underwear, formula, shampoo, disposable razors, blankets, coats, gloves, etc. Anything is helpful as so many people will have to rebuild their entire lives.

The Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce has opened a checking account with Smart Bank in order to pool together funds and 100% of the funds donated will be used for those in need.

Checks can be made out to “Gatlinburg Wildfire Relief Fund”

I will be leaving on Wednesday, Dec. 7th and I am willing to take as many things as will fit in my car. If you wish to donate, please leave the items in the box in front of the Career Services Office, or the box in the Front Lobby. If you wish to make monetary donations, please leave the checks in my mailbox in the basement or give them to me personally. I will go deposit them directly at the Smart Bank in Sevier County. Please feel free to contact me via email at sykthari@memphis.edu or via Facebook.
