3Ls SITTING FOR THE BAR IN JULY 2024, PLEASE READ THIS POST IN ITS ENTIRETY.

  • Sitting for the Bar in Tennessee?
    • Once the TN Bar of Law Examiners’ application opens on March 1, you should get to work. The final deadline is May 1st.
    • Want to mark something off your to-do list prior the March 1? The second page of the Law Degree Verification form has multiple pages. Print only page two, titled Authorization and Release.  You will complete some of the information at the top, then, in front of a notary public, you will sign and date. The Law Registrar, Cheryl Edwards is a notary public, so you can have it notarized in her office. If it is more convenient for you to have someone else notarize your form, no problem. Once it is notarized, drop the form off to Ms. Edwards or Ms. Hope Mohon (Room 260).  Once Ms. Edwards receives your notarized Authorization and Release form, it gives her permission to complete and submit a Law Degree Verification form [pages 3-4] to the TNBLE on your behalf.
    • HARD DEADLINE: Friday, April 12, 2023. Write it down, save it on your phone, and/or ask a friend to remind you, just please make sure Ms. Edwards has your notarized form by April 12th.
    • Once your grades are final and you have officially graduated, Ms. Edwards is responsible for sending the Late Confirmation of Degree form (page 6 of the Law Degree Verification form). Until Ms. Edwards submits the Late Confirmation of Degree page, you will be reminded by TNBLE to submit the form.
    •  Planning to apply for Non-Standard Testing Accommodations? You should start very early by reviewing the requirements. Requesting accommodations has a separate application. Read the information closely.  The Director of Disability Resources for Students, Tara Buchanan is responsible for completing some of the forms related to accommodations, while your doctor may need to be involved for other forms.  Once you know which forms Ms. Buchanan needs to be completed, email her. The earlier you can provide the forms, the better. Ms. Buchanan will be very busy just before and during the exam period, and may not be able to complete the forms promptly.

  • Sitting for the Bar exam in a different state? Check your state’s Bar Examiners website for deadlines and requirements. No matter the state, there will be a form or a letter that the Law School Registrar, Cheryl Edwards will need to provide to them. If you need assistance, please let me know. Sometimes the state sends those forms electronically or by mail directly to Ms. Edwards. If so, please let Ms. Edwards know in what state you will sit for the Bar.
