Reminder! Cecil C. Climate & Inclusion Workshop this Thursday!

On this Thursday, September 27, 2018, the Diversity Office will host its first Cecil C. Climate and Inclusion Workshop in Wade Auditorium.

Non-pizza lunch will be provided beginning at 11:45 am, and the workshop will begin promptly at 11:55.  This workshop is open to all interested students, faculty, and staff.    (Students: if you have a class extending to 11:45 or 11:50, or beginning at 1pm, please check with your professor as many are allowing students to attend the workshop without penalty and/or will begin class late/early for the workshop).  Thanks again to professors for your support as we explore these important topics!

The first in our series of Climate and Inclusion workshops, Do I Belong Here, the Problem with Exclusive Environments, will explore the disadvantages of elite and competitive environments like law school and the common problems exclusive environments may generate amongst students.

The workshop will also examine the psychological impacts of exclusive environments, focusing on imposter syndrome.  Imposter syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon, impostorism, fraud syndrome or the impostor experience), a common experience of law students and high-level professionals, is a psychological pattern in which an individual doubts their accomplishments and/or has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a “fraud” or feeling of not belonging.  The workshop will offer tools and tactics for creating more inclusive environments, individually overcoming feelings of impostorism, and promoting law school success.
